How to set up Gmail for Microsoft Outlook PDF Print E-mail
The following tutorial will show you to setup your Gmail account to work with Microsoft Outlook.


STEP 1: If you are setting up Outlook to work with Gmail for the first time, you will need to enable POP in your Gmail account.


Gmail POP Setup
Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

Choose the action you'd like your Gmail messages to take after they are accessed with POP.


STEP 2: Open Microsoft Outlook. If you already use Outlook and it is set up with another email account, you can add your Gmail account and use Outlook for both. If you have never used Outlook before, when you first launch it, it will ask you to set up a new account and you will see the following screen. (For current Outlook Users, Click "Tools" -> "E-Mail Accounts" and you will also get to this screen)


Create a new email account in Outlook
Select "Add New Account" and Click "Next", the following screen will come up:


Select POP email account


Select POP (or POP3) depending on your Version of Outlook and Click "Next"


STEP 3: On the next screen fill out the information with your Name (This is the name that appears next your email address when you send an email), your email address, Gmail Username and Gmail password.


Enter your Gmail Account Information


Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com

Then Click "More Settings"

Click on the Second Tab "Outgoing Server" and check the box "My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication. This means that you also need a password to send mail in addition to receiving it.


Outgoing Server Requires Authentication
Next Click on the "Advanced" Tab. You need to change the Port Numbers and Check the 2 boxes for SSL.

** Check the Boxes First, then enter the numbers otherwise Outlook will replace the numbers with the defaut settings when you check the box **

There is a Box "Leave a copy of message on the server", if you check this, your mail will stay on Gmail's server.


Setting Ports for Gmail in Outlook


Click "OK" and when the main screen comes back up, Click "Test Account Settings" Outlook will send and recieve a test message to make sure the settings are correct.

That's it, you're done.
